Gender-Based and Sexual Violence: What Kind of Support?

This roundtable brings together three speakers to explore how gender-based and sexual violence is handled in France, questioning the role of prison as the "best" solution and the support for victims.
  • Prune Missoffe (OIP - International Prison Observatory) examines whether prison is an effective response to violence against women, based on a recent report highlighting the rise in convictions and the challenges of addressing such violence through incarceration alone.
  • Violaine De Filippis-Abate, lawyer and author of "Classées sans suite", discusses systemic failings in how women's reports of violence are treated by the justice system, from filing complaints to case dismissals.
  • Maëlle Stricot, PhD candidate in economics, analyzes how media coverage and public policy affect reporting and judicial responses to violence against women, using administrative and survey data.
